Il carbone di cocco è un’alternativa ecologica e perfettamente funzionale al più comune carbone di legna. Il fatto che il comune carbone di legna, acquistabile al dettaglio per un paio di euro, sia una merce di qualità di produzione tedesca è una falsa credenza ampiamente diffusa. Gran parte della carbonella tedesca proviene da disboscamenti illegali della foresta tropicale e viene soltanto ‘travasata’ in Germania. Il consumatore in questo modo viene tratto in inganno e accecato dalle promesse di marketing. A chi cerca un’alternativa pregiata, ecologica e valida, raccomandiamo vivamente il carbone naturale di gusci di noci di cocco.
Se si tratta di una valorizzazione della materia prima del 100%, il cocco rimane il campione imbattuto. Il fatto che dall’esotico frutto, oltre a olio di cocco, latte di cocco & Co. si possa produrre anche carbone di cocco, è una novità per molti. Dal momento che il carbone di cocco è un derivato della produzione di generi alimentari a base di cocco, non è necessario abbattere alcun albero e alcuna palma per ottenere la pregiata brace. Invece di buttare via i gusci, le loro utili proprietà vengono sfruttate per la produzione di carbonella. A questo scopo i gusci vengono spezzettati, carbonizzati, macinati finemente e infine pressati. La lunga durata di combustione consente un uso parsimonioso del carbone, che contribuisce anche a contenere i costi. Così si utilizza decisamente meno carbone a parità di calore e durata di cottura rispetto al comune carbone di legno in commercio. Oltre a ciò il carbone di cocco ha un sapore e un odore assolutamente neutrali e può venire utilizzato su una piccola griglia senza creare problemi in caso di vicinanze ristrette. L’olio di cocco ecologico brucia lasciando un residuo di cenere quasi inesistente che arriva massimo al 4%, combinato con una bassissima produzione di fumo. In questo modo, lavori seccanti come la pulizia della griglia vengono ridotti al minimo. La piccola quantità di cenere prodotta può venire tranquillamente smaltita con i rifiuti domestici o venire addirittura utilizzata come fertilizzante in giardino. La pratica forma a cubetto impedisce che il carbone si spezzi durante il trasporto e lo rende molto maneggevole.

Accendere correttamente il carbone di cocco
Il carbone di cocco derivato al 100% da pure noci di cocco biologiche è privo di additivi come, ad esempio, sostanze che accelerano il processo di combustione. Ciò garantisce l’odore e il sapore neutrali del carbone. Affinché non ci siano intoppi in una piacevole grigliata serale, ci sono alcuni trucchi e stratagemmi da mettere in pratica per facilitare l’accensione del carbone naturale. In generale si dovrebbe evitare l’uso di sostanze altamente infiammabili quali alcool o benzina. Queste non soltanto sono pericolose in mani inesperte, ma influenzano anche negativamente l’odore e la combustione del carbone. Sarebbe consigliabile l’uso mirato di accensori per griglie (es. mattoncini accendifuoco), che possono venire accesi con un accendino a collo lungo a distanza di sicurezza. Un’altra possibilità per accendere il carbone di cocco in modo pratico e sicuro è il cosiddetto camino di accensione. Questo è composto da un tubo di latta con aperture che consentono il ricircolo dell’aria. Grazie a un pratico manico anticalore è possibile maneggiare il carbone ardente con la massima sicurezza. Mentre la parte superiore viene riempita con il carbone di cocco, nella parte inferiore si trovano materiali leggermente infiammabili come carta o fiammiferi. Attraverso la forma ristretta del camino di accensione il carbone si incendia più velocemente, grazie a una distribuzione uniforme del calore. Quando il carbone di cocco è diventato brace, versare il contenuto del camino di accensione nel grill.
Narghilè a volontà con il carbone di cocco
Il carbone di cocco non solo ci accompagna per un piacevole barbecue in compagnia nelle tiepide sere d’estate, ma si può usare anche come carbone per il narghilè. La sua lunga durata di combustione, unita alla produzione minima di cenere, lo rende l’alleato perfetto di ogni attrezzatura da shisha.
