El carbón de coco producido a partir de cocos bio puros 100 % está libre de aditivos, p. ej., sustancias que aceleran el encendido del carbón. Esto garantiza la neutralidad en olor y sabor del carbón. Para que nada se oponga a una noche de parrilla, hay consejos que facilitan el encendido del carbón natural sin aditivos. En principio, se debe renunciar al uso de líquidos fácilmente inflamables como, por ejemplo, alcohol o gasolina, ya que no solo son peligrosos en manos inexpertas sino que, además, influyen negativamente en el olor y comportamiento de combustión del carbón.
